 A Time of Renewal

As I write we are in the midst of an unusually early taste of spring. I’ll resist the urge to talk about global warming, and I won’t engage in any discussion of alternative facts. For me, it’s enough to just enjoy the beautiful day and wait for the first spring training game to hit the television sometime soon. I love spring and everything about it.  Thoughts of renewal and rebirth in my mind, crisp morning air in my lungs, the usual long drives of many days made just a little better by rolling down the windows and turning the music up. Oh, and also by the opportunity to pull out the weapons of mass destruction that some others refer to as golf clubs (there I go getting political again…sorry).

This year the thoughts of spring (and politics) are enhanced by my reflection on our own “first 100 days” together. We are about half way to that first check point in our management of MASAE and I am proud of the work we’ve already done.  Since we are all association management professionals it shouldn’t be a surprise that much of that work has been the behind the scenes effort that we put in to bring our own perspective to the day-to-day work along with some strategic thought to new directions and opportunities. Our entire staff is excited to have taken the helm of a great organization and I am personally gratified to follow Pat Koziol and her team and to benefit from the work they did to build MASAE from its inception. I am also lucky to be able to work with a group of talented and dedicated leaders who are determined to partner with me to make MASAE even more relevant to every segment of our membership.  Through the balance of the first 100 days, you will see not only enhancements to the current benefits of membership, but also a number of new initiatives, products, and services designed to bring tangible value to every member.  Regardless of the job you do, or the time you’ve been an association professional, we will deliver on our value proposition - real value, right in your back yard.  We’ll continue to offer

  • At least 3 Major Educational Conferences each year
  • More than 13 Networking opportunities  (live and virtual)
  • Over 25 CAE recertification credits accessible annually
  • 3 Editions of PACE Magazine that include over 30 educational articles
  • 26 Editions of the MASAE News Brief with the latest association news

But in addition you’ll begin to see specific on-line educational content accessible not only “right in your back yard” but in fact right at your desk - or if you are like me, on your sofa when the rest of the house goes to bed! You will be able to log the credits you earn for those and any other programs right on your own MASAE profile and print them out at recertification time on your transcript. You will have the opportunity to create your own network of MASAE members with similar interest or join communities of CEOs, COOs, emerging professionals, meetings professionals, membership professionals, even advocacy professionals.  Associate members will have all the same benefits and have the opportunity to join communities geared to their specific needs, but you’ll also have the opportunity to bring your special industry knowledge to our professional members through educational and networking events. All of these individual networks will grow and leverage each of our individual talents to advance the profession of association management – developing not only stronger associations and association leaders, but truly helping to improve the communities in which we work and live.

So with thoughts of renewal and rebirth firmly in place, I invite you to your own renewal. If you’ve already made your commitment to MASAE membership, thank you!  Now please take advantage of at least one opportunity that we offer you to find real value for your dues dollars. If you haven’t renewed, or if you’ve made a previous decision to not join, I ask that you take advantage of the opportunity to “come home.” See what we are building and perhaps even become a part of it. Take advantage of the opportunity.  You can renew or rejoin online today, or by calling 973-283-4347.

Happy Spring!
